Instagram is about to add a new feature with the update which is said to be a snapchat-like feature. The new feature will give users more options regarding locations and sharing.
You can say that is the latest on the list of the features that Instagram is picking from its competitors. Like Stories from Snapchat and reels from tiktok this feature is also similar to a feature on snapchat called snap maps. Instagram calls this new tool “Friend map”.

The feature is currently in limited testing. It will allow users to post video and post updates on the maps visible to selected friends. The feature is said to be having more restrictions in terms of privacy for now unlike snapchat in which there is an option for public posting. Instagram’s this feature is coming with an option to let selected friends or mutual followers that means a selected group of people which will be allowed to see your updates and location share.
The friend map feature will allow users to share locations and posts, videos updates to a selected number of friends. However, Instagram has kept this feature more restricted for everyone to see for privacy however snapchat allows the public options to see the update and maps.
The Spokesperson of meta told that this feature is developing and building by keeping safety in mind but some details like other potential public sharing options etc remain unclear. The feature is in limited testing and is developing currently.
