Every month there is a new twist in the telecom industry, and it is fun to see the TRAI numbers of June 2025! Jio and Airtel are dominating the market with their new subscribers, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL have lagged behind. This race becomes more interesting every time with new figures. Let’s see in detail what has been the scene of Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL this month, and why these numbers matter to you.
Subscriber Growth: Jio and Airtel hit the ground
According to TRAI data for June 2025, Reliance Jio made its mark in the market by adding 19 lakh (1.9 million) new wireless subscribers. These numbers show that people are liking Jio’s network, plans, and services. Jio’s total wireless subscriber base now stands at 483.13 million, and it tops the market with a market share of 41.02%.
Bharti Airtel is also performing strongly, with 7.63 lakh new subscribers added and its wireless base reached 394.92 million, giving a market share of 33.62%. These two private players together control more than 92% of the wireless market.
On the other hand, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has lost 2.17 lakh subscribers and its market share is at 17.56%. BSNL is also doing bad, with a loss of 3.05 lakh subscribers and its market share is around 7.8%. MTNL has also lost 1.52 lakh subscribers. These numbers tell us that Vi and BSNL will have to cut down a lot on their network coverage, pricing, and services if they want to compete with Jio and Airtel.
Broadband and Wireline
Jio’s dominance in broadband is even more clear, with 483.13 million broadband subscribers. Airtel has 294.92 million, while Vi has 127.39 million and BSNL has 29.33 million subscribers. In wireline (fixed-line) too, Jio added 4.54 lakh new subscribers and their market share is 31.44%. Airtel added 50,036 wireline subscribers, but Vi lost 52,430. BSNL and MTNL also incurred losses in the wireline segment, which shows that private players are ahead in this as well.
5G FWA and M2M: Preparation for the Future
5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) subscribers reached 7.85 million in June 2025, with urban areas contributing 4.73 million and rural 3.12 million. Machine-to-Machine (M2M) connections are also growing, and Airtel is leading with 37.28 million, followed by Vi and Jio. This shows that telecom companies are now focusing on IoT and smart devices apart from mobile.
Active Users: Who is the most active?
In case of active users, Jio’s VLR (Visitor Location Register) is 97.37%, and Airtel’s is 99.24%. Vi’s VLR is 84.54%, while BSNL has just 63.12%, which shows a lack in their active user engagement. This shows that Jio and Airtel users use the network more consistently, while Vi and BSNL users are a little less active.
Conclusion
One thing is clear from the TRAI data of June 2025 – Jio and Airtel are the bosses of the market, while Vi and BSNL will have to make major changes in their strategy. Jio’s 19 lakh and Airtel’s 7.63 lakh new subscribers show that people want reliable network and competitive plans. Vi and BSNL still have a chance if they improve network quality and pricing.
