So, if you are looking for a solid smartphone around ₹30,000, then OnePlus Nord 5 is a name that you get to hear again and again. There are many options in this price range like POCO F7 or iQOO Neo 10, which are ahead in performance. But if you want a phone that has a good balance in every department – performance, camera, battery, everything – then Nord 5 seems to be a safe bet. I tested this phone full-on for 20 days – daily use, gaming, camera, everything. Let’s see how was the actual experience, what is good, what is lacking, and anything surprising!
What’s in the box?

As soon as you open the box, you get a clean and premium vibe. Inside you find the phone, USB-C cable, SIM ejector tool, user guide, and a transparent case. The best part – 80W SUPERVOOC charger is also provided, which is rare in this price range! There is also a pre-applied screen protector, which is a thoughtful touch. Overall, upon unboxing, it seems that a lot of value has been packed in the phone.
Design: Beautiful but a little big
The design of the Nord 5 stands out a lot in this price range. The Marble Sands finish is absolutely unique – matte glass back that shines in light, and gives a premium feel along with the aluminium frame. When I showed it to friends and family, everyone loved the texture of the back panel. Colours include Dry Ice (Blue), Phantom Grey, and Marble Sands – Marble Sands gives off an absolutely different vibe!
But one thing – this phone is big and slightly wide with a 6.83-inch display (163.4 x 77 x 8.1mm, 211g). Compared to older Nord phones, which were slightly narrow and one-hand friendly, this one feels a bit bulky. Using it with one hand can be a little tricky. It has an IP65 rating, which means it is safe from dust and light splashes, but a little behind the IP68/69 of the POCO F7. I used it for 20 days without a case – there was not a single major scratch on the back panel and display, only a small dent came on the frame when the phone fell. So if you are a rough user, it is better to wear a case.
There is an IR blaster, which is useful for controlling AC or TV – small but useful thing. The speakers are quite loud – solid for podcasts or music, and the haptic feedback is also top-notch in this segment. The vibration is so good that you don’t miss any call and typing also feels satisfying. No network issues – 5G connectivity is stable in Delhi with Airtel SIM.
Display: Big and Smooth
6.83-inch Swift AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (1272×2800). 144Hz refresh rate is its highlight – games like BGMI or COD run smoothly at 120-144fps. With 1800 nits peak brightness and 1400 nits HBM, outdoor visibility is fine, but a bit weaker than POCO F7 (3200 nits) or iQOO Neo 10 (5500 nits).
Still, there was no problem in reading the screen in the sun. There is Gorilla Glass 7i protection, and even after 20 days without screen guard, only 1-2 minor scratches came. Watching content on Netflix or YouTube is a lot of fun – thin bezels and vibrant colours give an immersive feel. 3840Hz PWM dimming is comfortable for eyes at night.
Performance: Gaming Boss
With Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, this phone is a lot of fun in daily use and gaming. It scored ~1.48M on AnTuTu, which is slightly lower than POCO F7 or iQOO Neo 10 (Snapdragon 8s Gen 4), but there is no difference in the real-world. BGMI and COD Mobile run stable at up to 120fps on high settings, and 144fps is also possible with Adaptive Frame Booster. The 7300mm² vapor chamber cooling works – even after 30-40 minutes of gaming, the phone heats up to only 43-46°C, which is comfortable.
OxygenOS 15 (Android 15) is absolutely fluid in daily use. Apps open quickly, there is no lag in multitasking, and RAM management is so good that apps do not reload. Data transfer is a bit slow with UFS 3.1 storage, it would have been better if it was UFS 4.0. Productivity tasks, social media, or editing – everything is handled smoothly. One small issue – Truecaller notifications are 5-6 seconds late, but there is no issue in other apps.
Battery: Rock hard
The 6800mAh battery is a total shocker at this price! It lasts for 8-9 hours of screen-on time in heavy usage (gaming, streaming) and 30-40 hours in light usage (calls, social media). 80W SUPERVOOC charging takes 0-100% in 1 hour, which is pretty fast for this battery size. Battery optimization peaks after 7 days, and the Battery Health Engine is good for long-term durability. Battery life is unbeatable in this segment!
Software: Smooth but a few flaws
OxygenOS 15 is very clean and fast. UI is customizable, and bloatware can be uninstalled. 4+6 years update policy (4 OS upgrades, 6 security updates) is future-proof. AI features like Plus Mind, AI VoiceScribe, and Circle to Search are quite useful – organizing screenshots or summarizing calls is easy. But one bug was found – mobile data disconnects sometimes, and there is a problem in switching from Wi-Fi to data. This is minor, but should be fixed.
Camera: Reliable, but not perfect
The camera setup has a 50MP Sony LYT-700 main sensor (OIS), 8MP ultra-wide, and 50MP front camera. The main camera takes extremely sharp and vibrant photos in daylight – natural colours, good HDR, and retains details even on zoom-in. The 2x digital zoom is also surprisingly good, and edge detection is solid in portrait mode.
Exposure is balanced even in low-light, but sometimes a yellow tint appears. Ultra-wide lens is average – macro shots okay, but details are less in low-light. Selfie camera is good enough for selfies and video calls, and video quality (4K@60fps) is also solid as per the price. Overall, the camera is reliable, but a little lower than Motorola Edge 60 Pro.
Pricing:
- 8GB+256GB: ₹31,999 (with offers ~₹29,999)
- 12GB+256GB: ₹34,999
- 12GB+512GB: ₹37,999
Getting balanced performance, battery, and camera in this price is a good deal, but there is a little lack in design and camera.

Conclusion
OnePlus Nord 5 is a balanced phone that shines a lot in the ₹30,000 segment. This phone is absolutely solid in performance, battery, and display, and the camera is also quite reliable for daily use. But the slightly bulky design and lack of ultra-wide camera prevent it from being perfect. If you want an all-rounder phone that leaves no stone unturned in gaming, battery, and daily tasks, then Nord 5 is a safe choice.
