The OnePlus Nord 5 is getting popular in the market, because of its Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, 144Hz AMOLED display, and 50MP camera. But does it really deliver value for its starting price of ₹31,999, or are the Poco F7 and iQOO Z9 Turbo better choices? I used this phone for a week – gaming, social media, camera, tested everything. This is a completely honest and straightforward review. Let’s see what’s good and what’s not.

What’s in the Box?

Opening the box gives a clean and premium vibe. Inside you get:

  • OnePlus Nord 5 (tested in Marble Sands color)
  • 80W SUPERVOOC charger (included in India, not in Europe)
  • USB-A to USB-C cable
  • Transparent TPU case
  • SIM ejector pin
  • Quick start guide
  • Pre-applied screen protector

Getting both charger and case in India is a big plus – many brands skip them at this price. The box feels premium, but European buyers may be disappointed with the lack of a charger.

Design: Premium feel with a few drawbacks

The design feels flagship-level from the moment you hold it. Matte glass back (Marble Sands has a wave-like texture) with an aluminum frame looks sleek and classy.

  • Dimensions: 163.4 x 77 x 8.1 mm
  • Weight: 211 g (a bit bulky, but well-balanced)

The vertically aligned camera module looks clean and modern. The new “Plus Key” replaces the old Alert Slider and can launch the camera, flashlight, AI Plus Mind tool, or switch sound profiles. It’s useful but can get pressed accidentally during gaming.

It has IP65 dust and splash resistance but no full submersion protection like IP68. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front; back glass protection is unspecified.

Colors: Marble Sands, Dry Ice, Phantom Grey – Marble Sands stands out.

Display: Eye-friendly but flat

The 6.83-inch Swift AMOLED display impresses with:

  • 1.5K resolution (2800 x 1272), 450ppi
  • 144Hz refresh rate
  • 1800 nits peak brightness
  • 3840Hz PWM dimming
  • HDR10+ and Ultra HDR

Content looks vibrant, sharp, and smooth. The main drawback – it’s a flat panel, not curved. Adaptive refresh rate (60/90/120/144Hz) helps battery life but rarely uses 144Hz fully for static content.

Performance: Flagship-level for gaming

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (4nm) with Adreno 735 GPU, up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

  • AnTuTu: ~1.48M
  • Geekbench 6: 1974 (Single), 4929 (Multi)
  • 3DMark Wild Life: Maxed Out

Games like BGMI, COD Mobile, and Genshin Impact run at 90–120fps smoothly. Cryo-Velocity VC cooling keeps temps at ~46°C after long sessions. OxygenOS 15 (Android 15) is clean, fast, and fluid with minimal bloat.

Camera: Best selfies, weaker ultra-wide

  • Main: 50MP Sony LYT-700, OIS
  • Ultra-wide: 8MP
  • Selfie: 50MP Samsung JN5

Main camera delivers sharp, vibrant shots with natural colors. Night mode reduces noise but ultra-wide struggles in low light. Selfies are excellent – detailed, natural skin tones, supports 4K@60fps.

Battery: Big capacity, quick charging

India variant: 6800mAh (Europe: 5200mAh) – lasts 1.5–2 days normal use, 5–6 hours gaming screen-on time.
80W SUPERVOOC charges in 40–50 mins, bypass charging helps during gaming. Reverse wired charging (5W) supported. No wireless charging.

Software: Clean OxygenOS experience

OxygenOS 15 is bloat-free, smooth, and customizable. AI features include:

  • AI VoiceScribe
  • AI Translation
  • AI Reframe

4 years OS + 6 years security updates.

Other Features

  • In-display fingerprint: Fast, accurate
  • Stereo speakers: Clear, bass slightly weak
  • IR blaster, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC
  • Circle to Search

Pricing

  • 8GB+256GB: ₹31,999
  • 12GB+256GB: ₹34,999
  • 12GB+512GB: ₹37,999
Offers can bring starting price to ~₹29,999.

Comparison

Poco F7:

  • Pros: Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, telephoto lens, cheaper
  • Cons: MIUI ads, less premium build

iQOO Z9 Turbo:

  • Pros: Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, 6000mAh, better ultra-wide
  • Cons: FunTouch OS not as smooth

Nord 5 wins on OxygenOS, premium feel, and selfies. Poco and iQOO lead in performance and zoom.

Conclusion: Who should buy it?

Best for:

  • Social media and selfie lovers
  • Gamers who want smooth performance
  • Users who value clean software

Skip if:

  • You need telephoto or top ultra-wide low-light shots
