Poco M7 Plus 5G is here, and its craze is worth watching! This phone offers solid performance and premium features in a budget. I unboxed it, took a first look, and did a full test – from display to camera and gaming. Let’s see in simple and straight words how is this phone and whether it is worth the price!

What did you find in the box?

As soon as you open the box, Poco‘s signature yellow branding is visible – absolutely vibrant! M7 Plus 5G is written on the side. Inside you get the phone, 120W fast charger (yes, in the box itself!), Type-C cable, SIM ejector pin, quick guide, and a transparent case. There is also a pre-applied screen protector, which is a big deal in this budget segment. The unboxing feel is absolutely premium, and it feels like I have a solid hand!

Design: Sleek and Durable

This phone is absolutely stylish – 6.9-inch size, but weighs just 217g, which feels comfortable in the hand. There is plastic material at the back, but it gives a premium vibe with a matte finish. Aluminium frame and minimal bezels give it a modern look. Colors include Carbon Black, Aqua Blue, and Chrome Silver – Aqua Blue itself is quite dazzling! IP64 rating, meaning safe from dust and water splashes.

There is a dual SIM slot, Type-C port, mic, and speaker at the bottom. There are power and volume buttons on the right side, the left side is empty, and there is an IR blaster on the top as well – can control AC or TV. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is for display protection, which adds some durability. This phone survived the drop test without a scratch!

Display: Big and Amazing

6.9-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (1080×2340). It is clearly visible outdoors with 144Hz refresh rate, 288Hz touch sampling rate, and 850 nits peak brightness. There is also Dolby Vision and TÜV Rheinland certification, which is perfect for eye comfort. Colours are vibrant, the 10-bit panel delivers 68 billion colours, and the contrast is extremely deep.

Watching 2160p HDR content on YouTube was amazing – the animations were smooth, the scrolling was buttery, and the bezels are so minimal that it felt completely immersive. Compared to the Poco M6 Plus’s Full HD+ display, this is a big upgrade. This display is top-notch for content watching at this price!

Performance: Fire in Multitasking and Gaming

It has Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, which is made on 6nm process. The AnTuTu score is ~480,000-500,963, which is much better than the ~400,000 of the Poco M6 Plus. With LPDDR4X RAM (6GB/8GB) and UFS 2.2 storage (128GB/256GB), multitasking is smooth. I opened Chrome, Messages, and multiple apps simultaneously – no lag, no delay. App loading is fast, thanks to UFS 2.2, but if it was UFS 4.0 it would have been more fun.

In the gaming test, 60fps was consistent on BGMI at smooth + extreme settings. 90fps is not unlocked yet, but may get it with future updates. The graphics were clean, with no frame drop. Due to Ice Loop cooling technology, the phone heated up to only 43°C even after long gaming, which is impressive in this segment.

There is also Wild Boost 3.0 gaming mode, which boosts response time and performance. Throttle test scored 85% stability – meaning solid performance even in intense use. HyperOS 2.0 (Android 15) is very fluid in daily use, animations are fast, and 3 years of major OS updates and 4 years of security updates will be available.

Camera: Decent upgrade, but amazing in portraits

There is a dual camera setup in the back – 50MP main (f/1.8, PDAF) and 2MP depth sensor. 8MP selfie camera (f/2.0) in the front. The main camera delivers sharp photos during the day – skin tones are natural, details are crisp, and lighting is well-balanced. AI features like AI Expansion, Bokeh Effect, and Magic Eraser Pro are useful.

In Portrait mode, edge detection is quite accurate and the bokeh effect looks professional. Compared to Poco M6 Plus, this camera is slightly better optimized but there is no big jump. There is no ultra-wide lens, which is a slight drawback.

The selfie camera keeps skin tones natural but gives a slight beautification soft effect. Video supports up to 1080p@30fps but stabilization is average – a little jitter is visible in moving shots. Overall, the camera is good for the price, especially for portraits and daily use.

Battery: Long lasting

The 7000mAh battery is the biggest USP of this phone! With silicon-carbon tech, such a big battery has been fitted in a slim design. It comfortably lasts 6-7 hours of screen-on time in heavy use (gaming, streaming) and 12-14 hours in normal use. Full charge in 1 hour with 33W fast charging, and 18W reverse charging is also there – can charge TWS or any other device. A 33W charger is available in the box, which is a big upgrade over the 18W of Poco M6 Plus.

Audio and Connectivity:

There is a single speaker, which gives decent sound, but the bass is a bit less. It is average for music, but not enough for videos. Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and 15 5G bands. There is also NFC (region-dependent) and IR blaster. There is a USB-C 2.0 port, which is a bit slow in data transfer. There is dual SIM support, but no eSIM.

Software: Smooth, but basic

HyperOS 2.0 (Android 15) is smooth and fast. There are a lot of customization options, but the UI seems a bit simple. There is some bloatware, but it gets uninstalled. AI features like object detection and photo enhancement are useful. With long-term updates, this phone is future-proof.

Pricing: Value in Budget?

The 6GB+128GB variant starts at ~₹13,999, and the 8GB+256GB is available for ~₹14,999 (with offers). Such a big battery, smooth display, and solid performance at this price is an absolute killer deal!
