Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5
Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5

If you have played Red Dead Redemption 2, you know how great this game is. But when it runs on PS5 Pro and is seen on LG C2 4K OLED TV, it blows your mind! I tested this game on PS5 Pro today, and I can’t believe how beautiful it looks. Let me tell you what I liked, what I missed, and why this game is still awesome.

Setup: PS5 Pro + LG C2 4K OLED

First of all, let’s talk about the setup. I am using PS5 Pro and the screen is LG C2 4K OLED TV – 42-inch. OLED means deep blacks, vibrant colours and extremely clear pictures. I am playing the latest version (v1.00) of the game Red Dead Redemption 2 and this is a PS4 game that runs with Game Boost feature of PS5 Pro.

Visuals: Extremely Clear and Bright!

As soon as I started the game, I thought wow! This game looks much clearer and sharper on PS5 Pro than before. The checkerboard blur that was visible on PS4 and base PS5 is almost missing here! Individual leaves of grass, trees, and mountains at the door – everything is much clearer. The HDR mode on the LG C2 is absolutely on fire – the colours are so vibrant that you feel like you are inside the game.

Ground Vegetation

Grass and small plants now look more real than before. When you look inside in first-person mode, there is no blur or pixelation.

Distant Objects

There is still a little pixelation on the trees and mountains at the door, especially at night, but it looks much better during the daytime.

Character Models

Arthur Morgan and the textures of the NPCs are absolutely clean – no fuzzy or blurry look.

Even in night scenes, the lighting and shadows look quite real. There is a little pixelation around the moon, but not so much that it spoils the fun of the game. Daytime is even more fun – the textures, mud, and wooden buildings of Valentine Town are so detailed.

Performance: 30FPS, but Feels Smooth

Now talking about performance. This game is still locked at 30FPS, as Rockstar has not yet released any 60FPS patch. But due to the extra power of PS5 Pro, the motion feels a little smooth. Due to LG C2’s 120Hz mode and Low Frame Rate Compensation (LFC), there are no jerks or jitters. This works like smoothing the motion of the TV, so it is fun to play the game.

But if Rockstar gives a 60FPS patch and does native 4K, then this game will go next-level! PS5 Pro has so much power that it can give 4K 40FPS or maybe even 4K 60FPS if there is a little optimization. Currently it is only checkerboard 4K (1920×2160 upscaled to 3840×2160), but it still looks quite cool.

Loading Times: Very Fast!

One thing that is amazing on PS5 Pro – loading times! It used to take up to 90 seconds on PS4, but here it loads in 30 seconds. Now roaming around the large open world of the game starts even faster.

Gameplay: Amazing Now Too

The gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 is amazing anyway. Roaming around in Valentine, talking to NPCs, or running in the jungle – everything feels so real. With PS5 Pro the visuals pop even more, so you are even more lost in the game world. In first-person mode it feels like you have become Arthur Morgan yourself!

Weak Points: What is Missing?

  • 30FPS Lock: 30FPS feels a bit old now. It would have been more fun if it was 60FPS.
  • Distant Pixelation: Objects in the door, such as trees, look a bit pixelated, especially at night.
  • No Native 4K: This is checkerboard 4K, not native 4K. Xbox Series X has native 4K, so it burns a bit.
  • No PSSR: PS5 Pro does not have PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) in this game, as this is a PS4 game. If it had, it would have been sharper.

Conclusion

Red Dead Redemption 2 looks great on PS5 Pro with LG C2 4K OLED TV! Checkerboard 4K, HDR, and clear textures make the open world of the game even more alive. 30FPS is still a bit old, and there is no native 4K or PSSR, but still this game is still a masterpiece.

If you play it on a 1440p monitor, it will still look Pixel Perfect. If Rockstar gives a 60FPS patch, then this game will beat everyone even in 2025! Now you tell me, would you like to play it on PS5 Pro or not? Write in the comment.
