An OLED screen for a new Galaxy Z Flip phone that folds out?

It is possible to fold the new Flex In & Out OLED panel from Samsung Display both inside and out. According to the firm, unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 5 model, such a phone will not require an additional cover screen due to its ability of 360-degree folding.

However, better cameras in the same profile, thinner design with larger battery and no need for an external screen. It would also mean though that if it falls down ever, its foldable screen could always get exposed and vulnerable to damage.

To address this Samsung Display made the panel more robust. They also showcased tests of its durability, at the exhibition like exposing the device to temperatures ranging from 20°C to 60°C, bouncing basketballs, on the screen immersing it in water and rubbing sand against it.

Rollable Flex and Flex Hybrid OLED panels showcase what’s possible in the future

The Korean company also presented types of OLED displays including the Flex Hybrid and Rollable Flex. The Rollable Flex refers to a panel that can be rolled up to a quarter of its size. An OLED panel that can slide and fold simultaneously is called the Flex Hybrid.

You can watch our hands-on video of Samsung’s prior MWC 2023 concepts below. The company has also displayed concepts similar to these. The digital cockpit of the future was demonstrated by the company through a number of OLED panels for connected and autonomous cars.

The new electric MINI Cooper already sports the 9.4-inch circular OLED screen from the company. In addition, a 12.4-inch OLED roll-up panel is hidden in the front passenger seat and unfolds to reveal certain functions and allow rear passengers to watch videos.

A rollable screen on the dashboard can remain smaller when the driver wants less visual distraction from the screens and expand into a larger screen when watching videos while the electric car is parked and charging.
