Samsung Z Fold 7

When we talk about the phones of rich people, the name of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 comes first in the mind. This is a foldable phone, meaning a screen that folds from the middle – just like a sci-fi movie! Samsung says that this phone is for those people who do creative work or want to increase productivity on a big display. But in India most of the people buy it just to show off their wealth, true! I have used this phone for 7 days after making it my own phone, and brother, some things were so fun that it blew my mind, but there was a little disappointment in some things.

Unboxing: What’s in the Box?

When you buy such an expensive phone (₹1.75-2 lakh!), you expect to get something amazing in the box. But here there is just the phone, a Type-C cable, SIM pin, and some paperwork. Charger? Forget it! As per Samsung, this is now quite normal. Neither did I get any cover, nor screen guard. A little boring unboxing for such a costly phone, but it works.

Design and Durability: Have You Ever Seen a Phone This Thin?

The design of this phone is absolutely next-level! When you open it, it’s just 4.2mm thin – meaning one of the thinnest foldable phones in the world! When you close it, it’s 8.9mm and weighs just 215g – it’s lighter than even the Samsung S25 Ultra, which is a normal phone! With a metal frame and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, this phone is absolutely strong. The hinge is also awesome – you can keep it at any angle, it’s absolutely smooth. It has an IP48 rating, meaning it can be protected from a little water, but not from dust, so a little care is needed.

But there is one problem – it is a bit difficult to open it! Due to the flat design and small gap, it is difficult to open it with one finger without the cover. One has to pull it by putting the nail, which is a bit weird for such a costly phone. I also saw Vivo X Fold 5, it is easy to open due to its slightly rounded edges and extra button. But when it is closed, it feels so solid with the gapless design that it is not afraid – it feels absolutely flimsy!

Display: Great from Outside, a Bit Strange from Inside

The screen on the outside is 6.5-inch AMOLED, with 21:9 ratio. It is wider than the Fold 6, so it is quite interesting during typing and normal use. But it is a little narrower than the 20:9 ratio of normal phones. The inside screen is an 8-inch 2X AMOLED, with 120Hz refresh rate and 2600 nits brightness. Colours are amazing, HDR playback in movies is great, and is clearly visible even in sunlight. But the crease (mark of the fold) is still slightly visible, it is less than before.

But the aspect ratio of the inside screen is 0.9:1 – meaning almost square! While watching modern movies (16:9 or 21:9), big black bars appear on it, which is a bit boring. Movies look bigger and better on a normal phone like the S25 Ultra. Old 4:3 ratio series like Superman or Lois & Clark are fun to watch, but today’s content looks a bit strange on it. One more thing – it does not have anti-reflective coating, which is present in Vivo X Fold 5 and reduces reflections a lot. Speakers and haptics are great, full money vasool for multimedia!

Performance: Extreme Rocket Speed!

It has Snapdragon 8 Elite chip – same as S25 Ultra! There is no lag or hang with 12GB or 16GB RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. One UI 8 (Android 16) is so smooth that no matter how many apps you want to run simultaneously, there is no problem. Gaming is also awesomeBGMI, COD all run on full graphics. There is a little heat without cover, but no overheating. If you get 7+7 years of software updates (OS + security), then this phone is future-proof. Galaxy AI features like live translate, note assist, or sketch-to-image are quite cool, and wallet/tap-to-pay also works very seamlessly.

Battery: Good, But a Little Lacking

There is a 4400mAh battery, which is absolutely top-class in efficiency. In normal use, we get 8-9 hours of screen-on time – if you use YouTube, WhatsApp, Chrome, it runs comfortably for 1.5 days. In heavy use, it lasts 6-7 hours. But brother, Vivo X Fold 5 has a 6000mAh battery, and despite being foldable, it is amazing! Samsung should have put 5500mAh silicon-carbon battery here. 25W charging is also a bit slow – such a costly phone could have at least used 45W!

Camera: Great, But Not Perfect

The camera setup has a 200MP main sensor (like S25 Ultra), 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP 3x telephoto, and 10MP selfie cameras on both screens. Photos and videos from the main camera are absolutely stunning during the day – vibrant colors, sharp details. It works quite well even in low-light. Ultra-wide and telephoto are decent, but a little behind the 50MP ultra-wide or advanced zoom of the S25 Ultra. The selfie camera is punch-hole, which is better than the under-display camera of Fold 6, but UDC would have been better for a seamless look. There is an option to take selfies by folding the rear camera, but it looks a bit strange in public. Video quality is up to 4K@60fps, absolutely solid.

Network and Extras: Everything is Perfect

Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 (6.0 would have been even better), dual SIM and eSIM support. 5G speed and call quality are absolutely solid. Side-mounted fingerprint scanner is a little thin but gets used to it within 1-2 days. Dual stereo speakers are loud and clear – perfect for movies and music.

Pricing: Money Waste or Overpriced?

The 12GB+256GB variant is ₹1,75,000 and the 16GB+1TB is ₹2,07,000! Brother, this is absolutely costly. But you can get it for ₹1.5-1.6 lakh with discounts and exchange offers on Flipkart or offline stores. Among the colours, Deep Blue is the best – it definitely looks premium with a metallic matte finish.

Conclusion

Samsung Z Fold 7 is an engineering marvel – thin, light, and extremely powerful. There is no flaw in display, performance, and camera, but the battery is a little small and a bit troublesome to open. This phone is for those who want to show off their wealth or need a big screen for business. But if you want a practical phone, then S25 Ultra is much better.
