If the phone is small but has the performance of a big flagship, then 88% Indians prefer it – this is what Counterpoint data says! But in the market, compact phones come with big compromises, which nobody wants. To fill this gap, Vivo launched its X200 FE, which eliminates almost all the compromises in compact size. I tested it by making it a daily driver, and this is its full honest review – will cover both pros and cons. Let’s start!

What do you get in the box?

The box is absolutely clean and looks premium. Inside you get 90W FlashCharge charger, USB-A to Type-C cable, same color case, SIM ejector tool, and some paperwork. As soon as you take out the phone, its compact size, sleek design, and premium feel give a completely different vibe. There is also a pre-applied screen protector – this is a big deal at this price!

Design and Build: Small but Solid

The design of the phone is absolutely awesome – with a 6.31-inch display and just 186g weight, it sits perfectly in the hand. There is Score Sensation Core Glass in the front, aluminium frame in the middle, and frosted sand glass in the back, which gives a completely solid and dense feel. With IP68/69 rating, it is safe from water and dust, plus there is military-grade certification.

But don’t intentionally dip it in water – it is not covered under liquid damage warranty! The thickness is 7.99mm, so there is no problem in single-handed use. The colours are Black, Blue, and White – Blue looked really good to me. Let me know in the comments which colour do you like?

Battery: Such a small phone, such a big battery?

Vivo has fitted a 6500mAh silicon-carbon battery in this compact phone! It gives 8-9 hours of screen-on time even in moderate to heavy usage (gaming, social media, videos). It easily lasts for 1.5-2 days in light usage. 90W FlashCharge charges from 0-100% in 57-58 minutes. Reverse wireless charging is also there – you can charge your earbuds or another phone. This much battery life is extremely rare at this price!

Display: Small but extremely bright

6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED panel, with 1.5K resolution (2640×1126) and 120Hz refresh rate. With HDR10+ support and 5000 nits peak brightness, it is very clear even outdoors – 1800 nits HBM is enough in the real-world. Colours are accurate (Zeiss certified), contrast is great, and the LTPO tech adjusts the refresh rate from 1-120Hz, which also saves battery. The display is absolutely top-notch for videos or gaming!

Camera: Excellent in portraits, but a little lacking

The camera setup has 50MP Sony IMX921 main sensor (OIS), 50MP IMX882 3x telephoto (OIS), and 8MP ultra-wide. There is a 50MP autofocus selfie camera on the front. The main camera takes crisp photos in daylight – sharp details, vibrant colours, and on-point exposure. Zeiss filters (Classic Negative, Positive Film, Clear Blue) give a different vibe to the photos. The 3x zoom of the telephoto lens gives a very natural and human-eye-like perspective, and the colours are consistent too. 100x zoom is also possible, but the quality is not that much – might work for reading door signs!

Portrait mode is the USP of this phone – multi-focal lengths (23mm, 35mm, 50mm) with edge detection, details, and natural skin tones are absolutely perfect. The AI Visual Portrait feature gives effects of 4 seasons (Spring, Winter, Autumn, Summer), which make the photos look like a foreign shoot. The AI also adds extra details, like signboards, which look very realistic.

The Winter effect is my favourite! But the ultra-wide lens is a bit weak – there are less details and photos become soft in low light. There is no autofocus, so one has to use telephoto for macro shots, which works well. The selfie camera gives a wide field-of-view and takes clean photos even in low light, but has a slightly warm tone. The main and telephoto cameras are consistent in low light, but the ultra-wide lags a bit. There is an issue in Portrait mode – if you click 3-4 photos, it takes time to process, which is a bit irritating.

Video: Good, but a little lacking

The main and telephoto cameras support up to 4K@60fps in video recording. Light control is absolutely consistent, colours are balanced, and exposure adjusts smoothly in sudden light changes. Telephoto videos give a natural background blur, which feels cinematic. Low-light videos are also great – details and textures are preserved.

But stabilisation is a little weak – there is a slight jitter in moving shots. Selfie camera videos also give good output, but stabilisation is a little lacking. Can’t switch lenses in 4K@60fps, but switching is possible in 4K@30fps or 1080p@60fps.

Performance: Solid in daily use and gaming

MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ (4nm) chip, which is tuned jointly by Vivo and MediaTek. With LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, AnTuTu score is ~1.6M – not top-tier, but quite impressive for the price. CPU throttle test showed 82% stability, the phone is very stable. App opening, closing, and multitasking is very fast in daily use. RAM management is also great – apps do not reload in the background.

In gaming, BGMI runs smoothly at 90fps (Smooth + Extreme+), but fluctuates a bit at 85-89fps in long sessions. Asphalt 9 or COD Mobile support 60fps, and there is a bypass charging option, which reduces heating during charging. This phone is perfectly fit for casual and moderate gaming, but may fall short for hardcore gamers.

Software: Smooth, but a little basic

Funtouch OS 15 (Android 15) is smooth, but the UI seems a little simple. You will get 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates, which is good for the long term. The alignment of third-party widgets has been fixed, and there are no annoying recommendations for downloading apps from the Play Store. Bloatware is less, and the apps that are there, get uninstalled.

There are rumours that Funtouch OS and Origin OS will be merged in the next X-series, which will make the UI even more awesome. There are useful features like AI call translation, AI summary, AI transcript assist, AI caption, and Circle to Search. Haptics are also very crisp – feels good during typing and UI navigation.

Audio and Connectivity: Mixed Bag

There are dual stereo speakers, but the bass is a little less. Loudness and clarity are decent, but it feels a little average for music. The earpiece volume is loud for calls. Bluetooth 5.4 (aptX, LHDC support), Wi-Fi 7, and 20 5G bands – no network issue was faced on Jio 5G.

There is IR blaster, which can control TV or AC. Dual nano-SIM is supported, but there is no eSIM or memory card slot. The in-display fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate, but is placed a little niche. The USB-C 2.0 port is a little slow in data transfer.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • 6500mAh battery – such backup is quite rare in a compact phone!
  • IP68/69 and frosted glass design – quite durable and premium.
  • 50MP main and telephoto cameras – quite amazing in portrait.
  • 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display – bright and smooth.
  • 4+5 years of updates and solid daily performance.

Cons:

  • Ultra-wide camera weak in low-light.
  • Slightly lacking in video stabilization.
  • USB-C 2.0 bottleneck for slow data transfer.
  • No wireless charging.
  • Speakers lack a bit of bass.

Conclusion

The Vivo X200 FE almost eliminates the compromises with compact phones – with a big battery, great camera, and premium design. This is a solid deal in the Rs. 45,000-50,000 range if you want a small but powerful phone. But the ultra-wide camera and video stabilization are lacking.
