How the Writing Help Assistant Works
To apply this feature, one will first need to activate Private Processing in WhatsApp settings. After activation, and after approximately typing 3 or 4 words in the chat window, the right logo of the stickers will be renamed into a pen. The icon of the pen is the indicator that the AI assistant is available to assist.
When you press the pen icon, your message gets securely delivered to the Private Processing system. This is an anonymous and safe system that will process the requests given out by Meta. Then the AI will list you a couple of options for your message, and you can select the one you prefer or stick to your original.
The Writing Help assistant gives suggestions in five tones:
- Rephrase – Makes your message clearer without changing its meaning.
- Professional – Changes your message to sound more formal, good for work chats.
- Funny – Adds humor to make it entertaining.
- Supportive – Makes your message sound caring and friendly.
- Proofread – Corrects grammar and spelling errors for a cleaner message.
Focus on Privacy and Security
The Writing Help assistant is fully optional. If you don’t want to use it, you don’t have to enable Private Processing, and it will never appear in your chats. Even if you enable it, it only works when you manually tap the AI button. Your messages are never automatically changed or sent without your permission.
Private Processing is built to keep everything anonymous. It doesn’t scan your full conversation; it only processes the single message you choose to send to the AI for suggestions. The data is sent using encrypted connections, and it is never stored. Even the feedback you give about the suggestions is anonymous – WhatsApp only gets a simple flag telling them whether you liked it or not, without seeing the actual message.
Restricted Early Access
Currently, this new feature is limited to a few beta users. Although you update to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.23.7, you may not receive the Writing Help assistant at once. WhatsApp is gradually introducing it to test itself and improve it. A larger number of beta testers will have access over the next few weeks.
It may be available now in earlier beta builds such as 2.25.23.5, depending on account-level deployments. Therefore, assuming that you are the latest to have the update and still you are not on it yet, you are likely waiting till your turn comes to enable your account. This gradual and cautious deployment is done to ensure that the feature is well functioning for all of them before it is released in a broader way.

WhatsApp has ensured that the user is at all times in control when the Writing Help assistant is operating. It can never substitute or alter your message by itself.
