WhatsApp keeps trying new features every time to make chatting simpler and smarter. Earlier, WhatsApp added features like message editing and voice chats. Now, WhatsApp is again bringing a new AI-powered feature called Private Message Summaries. This feature is only available for some iOS users right now through the TestFlight beta program, and is slowly rolling out to more people.

In this article, we will talk about the new WhatsApp Private Message Summaries feature and how it is going to help iOS users in chats and groups.

How Message Summary Works

In this new update of WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.18.10.74, WhatsApp is testing a feature where users can get a small summary of messages they missed. If you have not opened your WhatsApp for some time and you receive many messages in a chat or group, then this new button will help. A summarize messages button comes above the chat, and if you tap it, you get a short AI-written summary of what all the messages are about.

This new feature works only when there are at least 3 new messages in the chat. The summary appears right in the chat itself and gives you a simple idea of what people have said while you were away. It helps you save time from scrolling and reading everything one by one.

Settings and Where to Find Them

If you turn on Private Processing, then you will see the Summarize Messages button in chats once you get multiple messages. The button also shows how many unread messages there are. Once you tap on the button, the summary is made instantly and sent back to you in the same chat view.

It doesn’t save anything and does not use your name or personal data. Everything happens inside a private and encrypted system, so it’s completely secure for the user.

This feature is especially useful in busy group chats, like family groups or community groups. People who miss many messages can quickly check the summary instead of reading every message. So this makes it easy for users who don’t have time to go through long conversations.

Only for Some and Optional Too

Right now, only some beta testers have this feature. So even if you install the latest version of WhatsApp beta on your iPhone, you might not get it. But WhatsApp said that this is slowly rolling out to more people. So maybe in some days or weeks, you will also get it on your phone.

Also, this feature is completely optional. If someone doesn’t want to use it, they don’t have to tap the button. And if they want to turn it off fully, they can go to settings and disable Private Processing.

There is also one limit—this AI summary feature will not work in chats where Advanced Chat Privacy is turned on. This is not because the feature is unsafe, but because WhatsApp wants to respect users who don’t want any AI-based tools in their private chats.

More AI Features Coming

Private Message Summaries is the first WhatsApp feature that uses the new Private Processing system. But this is just the beginning. Another feature called Writing Help might come soon. This feature will help users write messages in different tones, like formal or friendly, using the same private AI setup. It is not released yet, but could come in a future update.

Just like summaries, Writing Help will also keep your data private and run inside the same safe system.

So with this latest iOS beta update, WhatsApp is trying to give the same experience to iPhone users as it already gave to Android users earlier. By adding AI in a privacy-first way, WhatsApp is giving users new tools to make chatting more useful without losing safety.
